Experimental Psychopathology Lab Utrecht

Mental disorders cause substantial suffering and societal costs. In order to understand and treat these problems, their description and association with social, psychological and biological parameters is not enough. We need to know the causal processes that drive mental disorders. A powerful method to reach understanding of causality is to conduct well controlled laboratory experiments.

The aim of the UU/Experimental Psychopathology group is therefore to improve the understanding and treatment of mental disorders by rigorous experimental analysis. The group concentrates on a limited group of mental problems and relevant processes: anxiety, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder and eating disorders. Furthermore, there is a focus on (neuro)cognitive phenomena and the studies build mainly on insights from experimental psychology. The UU/Experimental Psychopathology group is a partner of the Dutch/Flemish inter university PhD school “Experimental Psychopathology”.
